About the event
'One Night Stand' is a pop-up art exhibition that Miriam has staged many times before and for this event she will have approximately 50 art works for sale at the museum for one night only. Part of the proceeds for the sale of art are being gifted to the museum.
This evening is a chance for us to celebrate Miriam and the incredible work she has done.
Dr Miriam Saphira, CNZM, lesbian icon and a founder of the museum, has recently announced her retirement as Secretary of the Board and Trustee for the Charlotte Museum Trust. Miriam has reluctantly stepped back for health reasons.
Miriam, with a small group of women established the museum in 2007 and opened its first premises in Grey Lynn in 2008. Supported by dedicated volunteers her vision, hard work and sheer tenacity has enabled the museum to survive and become a national treasure of lesbian sapphic cultural heritage.
It is difficult to adequately acknowledge or even quantify what Miriam has done as a founder of the museum, and who for many years was the museum. Her work ensures the vibrant, diverse, passionate, often humorous herstories of our radical, political, ‘loud and proud’ lesbian sapphic communities are preserved and included in the national narratives. And this significant legacy Miriam has created will continue to inspire and endure for generations.
Dress code – PURPLE - any way you like to wear it!
Please join us for drinks and nibbles to enjoy and purchase the art and celebrate Miriam.
